Balance and Strength Training at Sano Physio, Paddington.
Strong and steady wins the race.
We offer a range of services to improve your balance and strength. With a focus on your individual needs, we will give you a program designed help you reach your goals - from an athlete looking to improve their performance to an older patient who wants to reduce their risk of a fall and have confidence moving around.
Your physiotherapist will conduct a thorough assessment to understand your current level of balance, strength, and any underlying musculoskeletal issues. Based on the assessment you will be provided clear and achievable goals which may include improving stability, increasing muscle strength, or addressing specific functional limitations.
You will be guided through exercises in our onsite rehab space and your program will enable you to complete exercises at your local or home gym, and we will track your progress and adjust your program as needed.
Balance training
A strong sense of balance is needed to restore, function and perform, and you balance program will involve a range of exercises, summarised below.
Stability Exercises
Balance training often starts with stability exercises. These may involve simple activities like standing on one leg or progressing to more complex tasks that challenge your equilibrium.
Proprioception Training
To enhance your body's awareness of its position in space, proprioception exercises are incorporated. These activities can include balance on unstable surfaces or performing movements with closed eyes.
Functional Movements
Balance training extends to functional movements relevant to your daily activities. This could involve practicing walking on uneven surfaces or navigating stairs to improve overall stability.
Strength Training
Strength and balance go hand in hand. Your strength program will focus on building muscle, based on the goals we agreed on during your assessment.
Targeted Muscle Groups:
Strength training zeroes in on specific muscle groups that need improvement. This could include exercises for the core, lower limbs, and upper body, depending on your individual requirements.
Progressive Resistance
The program typically starts with low-intensity exercises and progressively increases resistance as your strength improves. This could involve using resistance bands, weights, or bodyweight exercises.
Functional Strength
Emphasis is placed on functional strength, ensuring that the exercises chosen contribute to better performance in everyday activities. This might involve replicating movements relevant to your daily life.
