Joint Mobilisation

Keeping your joints moving like they should

Joint Mobilisation at Sano Physio, Paddington

Enhance your movement and function.

Joint mobilisation may be used in your physiotherapy treatment plan to aid with stiffness. As the name suggests, it involves your physio guiding your joints through their usual range of motion to restore your movement.

As Sano Physio, our highly trained Sports Physiotherapists will assess your condition and recommend Joint Mobilisation when you need help to improve your joint mobility, reduce pain, and enhance overall function.

When is Joint Mobilisation used?

Joint Mobilisation can be effective in a range of scenarios, from limited motion, pain management, rehab and chronic conditions.

Joint mobilisation is often used when there's a limitation in joint movement. This restriction can result from various factors, including injury, surgery, inflammation, or chronic conditions.

When it comes to pain, by improving joint mechanics and reducing stress on surrounding tissues, mobilisation can also help reduce your pain.

If you’ve had surgery you may experience post surgery stiffness. As part of your post-op rehabilitation, mobilisation can promote healing and restore your functional mobility.

In chronic conditions like osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis, joint mobilisation can provide relief by addressing stiffness and maintaining joint flexibility.

What’s involved with Joint Mobilisation?

  • Before initiating joint mobilisation, a thorough assessment is conducted to identify the specific joint limitations and determine the appropriate techniques.

  • You will be positioned in a way that allows optimal access to the affected joint, ensuring comfort and effectiveness during the procedure.

  • Your highly trained physiotherapist will use gentle, controlled forces to guide the joint through its natural range of motion. Techniques can vary, including oscillations, sustained stretches, or rhythmic movements.

  • Throughout the procedure, we will monitor your response, adjusting the techniques as needed.

We will ask you for your feedback constantly while mobilising your joints to ensure the treatment is effective and comfortable throughout the session.
